Johnny founded the Johnny Damon Foundation to assist local and national
programs that provide leadership and growth opportunities for disadvantaged
children at-risk. He hosts the annual Johnny Damon Celebrity Golf Classic to
raise money for Orlando-based charities, such as Winnie Palmer Children's
Hospital and the Wounded Warrior Project. He is the national spokesperson for
the Wounded Warrior Project, which provides programs and services for injured
servicemen and women and their families. Johnny is also the Yankees Home
Run Captain for the Children's Health Fund, a national organization that brings
quality health care to the nation's most medically-disadvantaged children. He
donates money to the organization for each home run the Yankees hit. Johnny
visits kids suffering from cancer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering in New York City,
and supports the New Jersey School for the Blind with appearances and
fundraising. Since 1996, he has been a special contributor to Tanglewood
Acres, a Rockland County center that treats mental retardation. In February,
Johnny, who is Commissioner of the Professional Baseball Gaming League,
teamed up with hip-hop mogul Snoop Dog to host a video game tournament
where they faced off against each other to benefit both of their foundations.
Johnny Damon has scored at least 100 runs and hit at least 30 doubles in
nine consecutive seasons, a feat accomplished by two only other players in
Major League history: Lou Gehrig and Stan Musial.
