COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Mike Sweeney and his wife Shara formed the Sweeney Family Foundation to support youth and crisis pregnancy centers around the country. They use the Foundation to bridge the Catholic and Protestant Churches. Since 2005, Mike has served as the spokesperson for RBI (Reviving Baseball in the Inner City). He committed $100,000 to build the "Sweeney Family Field" that was dedicated in 2006. He initiated "Swing with Sweeney" in 2005, pledging $100 for each RBI he collects (contributed $9,000). Since 2003, Mike has provided $27,000 worth of tickets and souvenirs for more than 2,700 kids to attend Major League games. He meets with the kids prior to Saturday night home games to give them a personal message promoting unity and faith. Last year, Mike and Shara created and hosted the inaugural "Lunch for Life with the Sweeneys" to support local pregnancy centers. The luncheon raised nearly $100,000 for the Rachel House Pregnancy Resource Centers and The Women's Clinic of Kansas City. Actively involved with Catholic Athletes for Christ, Mike led a pilgrimage to Rome in November 2006. He serves as the National Spokesperson for the international Catholic ministry dedicated to helping teens grow in their faith. Mike won the 2005 Players' Choice Marvin Miller Man-of-the-Year Award.

BASEBALL CAREER:
Mike Sweeney has been named to the American League All-Star team three times. He ranks among Kansas City's career leaders in nearly every offensive category and holds the top career batting average with a .300 mark.
The Branch Rickey Award is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Denver.
Proceeds from the event benefit Denver Kids, Inc., a preventative counseling
and mentoring program for at-risk students in Denver Public Schools.
