COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Since coming to Colorado, LaTroy Hawkins has volunteered at a local homeless shelter, serving meals and providing comforting words to homeless families. He also helped paint an old hotel that has been converted into a shelter for homeless families. Before being sent out of town for a rehab assignment earlier this season, he was looking forward to visiting local elementary schools and participating in other community events. LaTroy is a strong supporter of the "Baseball Assistance Team" (BAT), which helps members of the baseball family most in need with their financial, psychological or physical burdens. He also participates with the MLB Players Trust, a charitable foundation that calls attendtion to important issues affecting the needy and helps encourage others to get involved in their own communities.

BASEBALL CAREER:
A 10-year veteran of the Major Leagues, LaTroy Hawkins joined the Rockies this season after pitching successfully for the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins and Baltimore Orioles. He was an All-State performer in baseball and basketball in high school.
The Branch Rickey Award is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Denver.
Proceeds from the event benefit Denver Kids, Inc., a preventative counseling
and mentoring program for at-risk students in Denver Public Schools.
