The go-to guy for community outreach for the Reds, Aaron Harang and his wife
Jen created "Aaron's Aces" this season to give tickets to families who currently
have a parent serving in the War on Terrorism. In addition to Sunday home
game tickets, Aaron meets each family prior to the game, giving them t-shirts
and autographs. Aaron was the first player to commit to the "Shop with a
Jock" program presented by Dick's Sporting Goods. Dick's donates $100 gift
cards to children in need who participate in the Reds' Rookie Success League
baseball outreach program. Players make voluntary matching contributions to
give the kids a shopping spree at Dick's. Aaron and his family recently
appeared as the lead story and cover photograph regarding their new role as
parents for the annual Father's Day issue of Cincinnati Woman Magazine. An
active participant in Make-A-Wish programs, which provides terminally ill kids a
chance to meet their favorite Reds player, Aaron meets with kids during batting
practice. He also volunteered to be the first Captain of the official kids club of
the Cincinnati Reds, the "Red Heads." He has appeared in television and web
advertising and will make public appearances to promote the club.
Since he was acquired from the Athletics in 2003, Aaron Harang is the Reds'
leader in most statistical pitching categories, including starts, victories, innings
pitched and strikeouts. In 2005, he received the Johnny Vander Meer Award as
the Reds' most outstanding pitcher.
