In 2006, Brain Roberts hosted "Brian's Baseball Bash" at the ESPN Zone, raising
more than $100,000 for the University of Maryland Hospital for Children. The
2007 "Bash" is scheduled for August. He makes numerous trips to the
University of Maryland Hospital for Children throughout the baseball season,
visiting sick children and bringing them gifts. Every December, he returns to
Baltimore to participate in the Orioles Annual Holiday Party for children. Brian
sponsored the sale of black baseball-seamed bracelets with the proceeds going
to the University of Maryland Hospital for Children. Almost daily after batting
practice, he visits with kids and other guests of the Orioles brought in to watch
batting practice from behind home plate. During the off-season last year, Brian
hosted a Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp in Greenville, NC and helped
sponsor a toy drive in Arizona last Christmas. For the past four winters, Brian
has traveled to Baltimore to participate in the Orioles FanFest.
Brian Roberts was named second team All-American by Baseball America while
attending the University of South Carolina in 1999. He led the nation with 63
stolen bases in 1998. Baseball America rated him as the top defensive player
in the country. In the big leagues last season, Brian stole 38 bases, ranking
him sixth in the American League. He committed only nine errors all season.
