COMMUNITY SERVICE:
In 2006, Brain Roberts hosted "Brian's Baseball Bash" at the ESPN Zone, raising more than $100,000 for the University of Maryland Hospital for Children. The 2007 "Bash" is scheduled for August. He makes numerous trips to the University of Maryland Hospital for Children throughout the baseball season, visiting sick children and bringing them gifts. Every December, he returns to Baltimore to participate in the Orioles Annual Holiday Party for children. Brian sponsored the sale of black baseball-seamed bracelets with the proceeds going to the University of Maryland Hospital for Children. Almost daily after batting practice, he visits with kids and other guests of the Orioles brought in to watch batting practice from behind home plate. During the off-season last year, Brian hosted a Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp in Greenville, NC and helped sponsor a toy drive in Arizona last Christmas. For the past four winters, Brian has traveled to Baltimore to participate in the Orioles FanFest.


BASEBALL CAREER:
Brian Roberts was named second team All-American by Baseball America while attending the University of South Carolina in 1999. He led the nation with 63 stolen bases in 1998. Baseball America rated him as the top defensive player in the country. In the big leagues last season, Brian stole 38 bases, ranking him sixth in the American League. He committed only nine errors all season.
The Branch Rickey Award is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Denver.
Proceeds from the event benefit Denver Kids, Inc., a preventative counseling
and mentoring program for at-risk students in Denver Public Schools.
