COMMUNITY SERVICE:
In 1995, Ryan Zimmerman's mother, Cheryl, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a chronic and unpredictable disease that affects the central nervous system. Ryan looks at his mother's condition as an influence on his development as a person. To make a difference in his mother's life, as well as the roughly 400,000 Americans who suffer from MS, Ryan founded ziMS Foundation. Ryan's parents, Cheryl and Keith, serve on the Board of Directors. The Foundation kicked off their fundraising efforts last November with the First Annual ziMS Golf Tournament in Virginia Beach. The event raised in excess of $40,000, plus donations of $20,000. The second annual tournament will be held this November. In March, the Foundation sponsored an exclusive dinner followed by a Nationals game. Many more events are planned to benefit MS research. In addition to work with his Foundation, Ryan participated in several library reading sessions in the DC area. He also participated in the cleanup of the Anacostia River Project. He has visited troops returning from the War on Terrorism at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He participated in the Nationals' Breast Cancer Awareness Initiative. Ryan honored his mother on Mother's Day by joining the Nationals' Tribute to Moms.

BASEBALL CAREER:
Last season, Ryan Zimmerman turned in the finest rookie season in the history of the franchise. He led Major League rookies with 110 RBIs. He finished second in the National League Rookie-of-the-Year voting.
The Branch Rickey Award is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Denver.
Proceeds from the event benefit Denver Kids, Inc., a preventative counseling
and mentoring program for at-risk students in Denver Public Schools.
