COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Since becoming a professional in 1989, Carlos Delgado's main goal has been to improve the lives of children. Six years ago, he created the Extra Bases Foundation. Extra Bases is a non-profit Puerto Rican-based charity that assists underprivileged and deserving youngsters in the community and abroad. He has expanded his Foundation to help the children of New York City. Carlos and his Foundation are responsible for hosting a huge yearly pre- Thanksgiving feast for hundreds of homeless, needy and handicapped children in his hometown of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Around Christmas, he travels to several stores to purchase gifts and then personally delivers them to hundreds of kids in Puerto Rico. In 2007, for the third consecutive year, Carlos has sponsored two four-year college scholarships. For every home run he hits, Carlos donates $2,400 to Extra Bases, contributing $75,000 in 2006. Last fall, he donated $25,000 to the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club in the Bronx. Carlos received the 2006 Roberto Clemente Award during the third game of the World Series.
