participating in painting projects with young artists at the LeRoy Neiman Art
Center. He provides mentoring and artwork to "Root Division," a local Bay Area
art and education program. Working with the Boys and Girls Clubs, he shares
his love for music and encourages youngsters to pursue their dreams. In 2005,
the Giants held their first "Fiesta Gigante" at AT&T Park to celebrate the Bay
Area's Hispanic heritage. Omar has promoted and attended the event the past
two seasons, welcoming fans and embracing Hispanic culture. In addition to
his work in the arts and music, Omar takes time to visit schools and supports
the Make-A-Wish Foundation. During his tenure in Cleveland, Omar served as
honorary spokesperson for "Young Audiences," an arts education organization.
He was also active with the Children's Miracle Network for Rainbow Babies and
Children's Hospital. He was the Giants 2006 Roberto Clemente Award nominee.
Omar Vizquel is one of the greatest defensive shortstops ever, winning 11 Gold
Gloves at the position, second only to Ozzie Smith. He has a .984 lifetime
fielding percentage, the highest mark in Major League history for shortstops.
