COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Since joining the Giants in 2005, Omar Vizquel has donated more than $50,000 to Giants' community endeavors. In 2006, he lent his voice, image and time to "WritersCorp," a program that encourages young people to express themselves through writing and the spoken word. He also supports the arts by participating in painting projects with young artists at the LeRoy Neiman Art Center. He provides mentoring and artwork to "Root Division," a local Bay Area art and education program. Working with the Boys and Girls Clubs, he shares his love for music and encourages youngsters to pursue their dreams. In 2005, the Giants held their first "Fiesta Gigante" at AT&T Park to celebrate the Bay Area's Hispanic heritage. Omar has promoted and attended the event the past two seasons, welcoming fans and embracing Hispanic culture. In addition to his work in the arts and music, Omar takes time to visit schools and supports the Make-A-Wish Foundation. During his tenure in Cleveland, Omar served as honorary spokesperson for "Young Audiences," an arts education organization. He was also active with the Children's Miracle Network for Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital. He was the Giants 2006 Roberto Clemente Award nominee.

BASEBALL CAREER:
Omar Vizquel is one of the greatest defensive shortstops ever, winning 11 Gold Gloves at the position, second only to Ozzie Smith. He has a .984 lifetime fielding percentage, the highest mark in Major League history for shortstops.
The Branch Rickey Award is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Denver.
Proceeds from the event benefit Denver Kids, Inc., a preventative counseling
and mentoring program for at-risk students in Denver Public Schools.
