ORLANDO HUDSON

BIRTHPLACE: Darlington, SC
RESIDES: Darlington, SC

COMMUNITY SERVICE:
From the moment he joined the Diamondbacks in January 2006, Orlando Hudson made it clear that he was ready to make a difference in Arizona, both on and off the field. Only 17 days after the team acquired him from Toronto, Orlando departed on the Diamondbacks Hometown Tour, visiting Globe, Show Low and Payson. From the first fan to the very last, he showed his appreciation for each encounter, no matter the age of the individual. His passion for serving the community has rubbed off on his teammates as he recruits younger players to attend community events. Orlando's compassion for children with autism began during his own childhood. With two cousins afflicted, he learned to love, support and respect children with autism. He has developed a program with the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center to give children with autism a chance to attend monthly "game nights." He gives these kids and their parents his private luxury suite, and meets with each child before the game. Orlando was the Honorary Chairperson for the inaugural "Walk Now Arizona" last November. During the Diamondbacks' Inter-tribal Youth Baseball Tournament, Orlando gave fundamental baseball tips and life lessons to more than 200 Native American youth. He also has recorded thank-you messages to support our troops that were aired on the Armed Forces Network.

BASEBALL CAREER:
Last year, Orlando Hudson was a candidate for the Gold Glove Award, committing only 13 errors. He turned 116 double plays.
The Branch Rickey Award is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Denver.
Proceeds from the event benefit Denver Kids, Inc., a preventative counseling
and mentoring program for at-risk students in Denver Public Schools.
