COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Torii Hunter names the Rookie League and RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) as his charities of choice. Active with these inner city youth baseball programs, Torii is the spokesperson for the leagues, appears in PSAs and meets with the leagues 6,000 players while teaching clinics. He personally selects 40 economically-disadvantaged players each month to join him for Twins batting practice. He speaks with kids about growing up around gangs in Little Rock and encourages them to stay in school and baseball. Torii also supports Big Brothers Big Sisters by hosting youth and mentors at Twins games. As part of the “Hunter’s Homies” program, Torii has given tickets to Twins games to more than 20,000 youth since 2003. Involved with the Christian-based Athletes In Action, he meets with college baseball and softball teams, encouraging them to stay focused and find support in God. Torii also supports the Garth Brooks Touch ‘Em All Foundation and the Twins Winter Caravan. In addition, he spends countless hours signing autographs at TwinsFest, helping to raise more than $500,000 for the Twins Community Fund. In 2004, he received the Carl R. Pohlad Award for outstanding community service. In 2002, Torii was a finalist for the MLBPA Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award.

BASEBALL CAREER:
In 2004, Torii Hunter won his fourth consecutive Gold Glove Award. He was a member of the 2002 American League All-Star team. In high school in 1993, he was an All-American and named Arkansas Player of the Year.
The Branch Rickey Award is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Denver.
Proceeds from the event benefit Denver Kids, Inc., a preventative counseling
and mentoring program for at-risk students in Denver Public Schools.
