As part of the program, he meets with each group of kids on the field after batting practice for photos and autographs. Over the past few years, Bobby has made several visits to Inner City youth organizations such as the Police Athletic League and YMCA in predominantly Latino areas. He coaches the kids and encourages them to finish their education. He donated $2,500 to Camp No Worries, a camp for children with cancer and their siblings. In 2001, he served as honorary chairman for the American Red Cross Blood Drive. The Red Cross provided relief supplies for flood victims in his native Venezuela. Bobby was the winner of the Phillies annual Community Service Award for his many contributions to the community. The award comes with a $10,000 grant to the charity of his choice.

He was a member of the 2004 National League All-Star Team and won his first Silver Slugger Award.
