Brad
Wilkerson has been involved in charitable work for most
of his Major League career. While with the Montreal Expos,
he hosted “Wilkerson Sundays” where he provided
30 tickets and food vouchers for all Sunday home games
for children. He hosts his own charity golf tournament
and auction which benefits the Owensboro, Kentucky Family
YMCA, Owensboro Girls Club, local Boys & Girls Club
and First Tee, a non-profit organization that promotes
golf to young children. Brad sponsors a little league
team, provides gifts for families during the Holiday season
and donates money to numerous children’s charities.
In collaboration with the Baseball Tomorrow Fund, Brad
granted close to $100,000 in June 2004 to the Cliff Hagen
Boys and Girls Club in Owensboro to build a baseball field.
During the off-season, he spends time meeting with and
mentoring kids in his hometown. Brad also contributes
as a member of the Nationals with visits to Children’s
National Medical Center.
In
2004, Brad Wilkerson was named the Expos Player of the
Year by the Montreal chapter of the BBWAA. In his third
full season, he established career highs in hits (146),
runs (112), doubles (39), home runs (32), walks (106),
and slugging (.468). He became the first Expo to hit 30
home runs, score 100 runs and walk 100 times in a single
season. Completing high school in 1995, he was named Kentucky’s
Mr. Baseball, where he also excelled in soccer, basketball
and as a place-kicker in football.
