COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Since joining the Mariners in 1993, Dan Wilson has been committed to helping the children and families of First Place, a school and social services agency for homeless children and their families. Dan and his wife Annie visit classrooms regularly, participate in fund raising events and serve on the Advisory Board of Directors. Over the past six years, the annual ballpark fund raisers that the Wilsons host have raised over $250,000 for First Place. In 1997, Dan introduced his “Assists for Kids” program to support the youth of First Place. Every time Dan or another Mariner catcher throws out an opposing runner, he makes a contribution to First Place. He also supports a number of other literacy and educational programs, including Page Ahead Children’s Literacy program, MLB Breaking Barriers, the Seattle Times NIE “Leaders are Readers” program, GTE Literacy Champion program and the Mariners D.R.E.A.M. Team School Assembly program. In 1996, Dan and his wife adopted their daughter Sophia through the Montana Orphanage in Bulgaria. Last November, they held an autograph session and fund raising dinner to benefit All God’s Children International, a Portland, Oregon-based agency that facilitates adoptions in the United States.

BASEBALL CAREER:
In 2004, Dan Wilson reached base via a hit or walk in 71 of the 98 games in which he had an at-bat. He has played in 1,300 Major League games. In 1990, he was co-captain of the University of Minnesota club and a first team All-American selection.
The Branch Rickey Award is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Denver.
Proceeds from the event benefit Denver Kids, Inc., a preventative counseling
and mentoring program for at-risk students in Denver Public Schools.
