SCOTT EYRE

BIRTHPLACE: Inglewood, CA

COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Since arriving in San Francisco in August 2002, Scott Eyre has been making a difference both on and off the mound. He has been especially active in promoting awareness of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, a condition with which he has been afflicted. After being diagnosed with AD/HD in early 2002, Scott freely shares with the public his experiences living with AD/HD. In January 2004, he partnered with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine for a two-hour live “Ask the Expert” chat, focused on his journey with AD/HD. Each year, he visits the Charles Armstrong School in Belmont, which teaches dyslexic learners. He also participates in the Giant Wives Auction, helping to raise more than $25,000 for the Giants Community Fund, Comfort for Kids and the Step to the Plate Foundation. He served as the spokesperson for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and attended their Read-A-Thon party in 2004. He also supports the Parent Education Network, a coalition of parents working with educators to help bring success to children with learning difficulties. During the off-season, Scott visits several schools in his Florida hometown and hosts baseball clinics for local kids.

BASEBALL CAREER:
In 2004, Scott Eyre set a single season record for left-handed pitchers with a career-high 83 appearances. His workload tied for tenth most outings by a southpaw in Major League history. Since 2002, he has stranded 80.1% of inherited runners.
The Branch Rickey Award is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Denver.
