COMMUNITY SERVICE:
In 2004, Toby Hall made more than 20 appearances in the community. Since 2002, Toby and his wife Karra have taken lead roles in the Wives of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays dinner and auction. Since inception in 1999, the event has raised $330,000 for the ALS Association and the Rays of Hope Foundation. Since 2003, Toby has supported Ronald McDonald House, a “home-away-from-home” for families of seriously ill children. He has made several visits to Children’s Hospital in Tampa and All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg. He hosts families at games, purchasing tickets and t-shirts for the kids. Last season, Toby partnered with Pinellas Safe Start, a project of the U.S. Department of Justice to help prevent violence on young children and their families. He serves as the spokesman for the organization. Toby also took part in the National Down Syndrome Society’s “Buddy Walk” last October. Toby and Karra recently formed the Toby Hall Foundation to assist Ronald McDonald House, and Pinellas Safe Start. On May 25, they presented 6-year old Chase, a Make-A-Wish child, a new wooden playground set. He is a candidate for the Sporting News Good Guy Award in 2005.


BASEBALL CAREER:
In 2003, Toby Hall threw out a Major League best 41.3% (31 of 75) attempted base stealers. Last season, he started 115 games behind the plate for the Devil Rays. During the season, he drove in a career-high 60 runs, sixth among American League catchers. He was an All-American at UNLV, batting .383.
The Branch Rickey Award is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Denver.
Proceeds from the event benefit Denver Kids, Inc., a preventative counseling
and mentoring program for at-risk students in Denver Public Schools.
