COMMUNITY SERVICE:
In January 2005, Mark Prior was named to the board of directors of USA Baseball. He is also a member of the advisory board of Boys Hope Girls Hope of Illinois, which assists academically capable and motivated children in need to meet their full potential by providing value-centered, family-like homes, opportunities and education through college. Mark hosted a golf tournament for the organization this June that raised more than $80,000 for the organization. He and his wife Heather spend time with the children in the program. Mark supports Cubs Care, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, by lending his name and time to the fund raising efforts of the charity. He supports the Major League Baseball Players Association’s Player Trust. For each of the past two years, he has financially supported two RBI teams. Mark hosts a number of terminally and critically ill children and adults who visit Wrigley Field through “wish” organizations such as Make-A-Wish and the Fairy Godmother Foundation. As a USC graduate, he also supports his alma mater’s athletic program.

BASEBALL CAREER:
Mark Prior has gone 30-16 with a 3.08 ERA in his first 70 Major League starts. In 2003, his first full season in the majors, he finished third in the National League Cy Young Award voting and was selected to the NL All-Star Team. In 2001 at USC, Mark was an All-American and received seven national Player-of-the-year awards after going 15-1 with a 1.69 ERA.
The Branch Rickey Award is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Denver.
Proceeds from the event benefit Denver Kids, Inc., a preventative counseling
and mentoring program for at-risk students in Denver Public Schools.
