ROGER CLEMENS

AGE: 42
POSITION: Pitcher
BIRTHPLACE: Dayton, OH
RESIDES: Houston, TX
COLLEGE: University of Texas
PERSONAL: Wife Debbie, 4 sons
COMMUNITY SERVICE:
In 1992, Roger Clemens and his wife Debbie established the Roger Clemens Foundation to support educational, charitable, literacy, scientific and religious activities for children, with emphasis on underprivileged, at-risk and special needs kids. Some of the non-profit organizations in Houston that the Foundation supported last year are: Depelchin Children’s Center, Children’s Assessment Center, Linda Lorelle Scholarship Fund, M.D. Anderson Children’s Art Project and the Houston Assistance League. Last fall, the Foundation partnered with supporters to send care packages of clothing and toiletries to an entire unit of armed forces in Iraq. Roger teamed up with Houston sports anchor Giff Nielsen for the 2004 Day of Golf for Kids, raising money for KidsWay, a United Way program, the YMCA and First Tee. This year, Roger stepped in to help a local Houston man and his son who had lost their wife and mother. The 12-year old boy had a liver transplant in 2003. Through his Foundation, Roger graciously donated a condominium (mortgage-free) to the family to help them make a fresh start. Roger serves as spokesperson for the Houston Food Bank and joined the Mayor to endorse the city’s “Cleanup Houston” campaign.

BASEBALL CAREER:
In 2004, Roger Clemens earned his 10th career All-Star selection. The 7-time Cy Young Award winner made 33 starts in his 20th Major League season. The ”Rocket” became the oldest pitcher to win the Cy Young, and only the fourth player all-time to win the award in both leagues.
The Branch Rickey Award is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Denver.
Proceeds from the event benefit Denver Kids, Inc., a preventative counseling
and mentoring program for at-risk students in Denver Public Schools.
