Since
joining the Reds in 1998, Sean Casey’s worthy deeds
have set a high standard. He and his wife Mandi are active
in Big Brother/Big Sisters. They have mentored Ben Taylor,
a young man from Cincinnati, for five years. They donated
$50,000 to the organization, targeting the “Sponsor-A-Match”
program. Sean initiated “Casey’s Crew”
to invite 24 underprivileged children to the ballpark
for every Saturday home game. As the honorary co-chairman
of the “BatsIncredible” public arts project,
he helped raise $250,000 for local charities. Sean participates
in the Make-A-Wish program held every Friday during batting
practice. He posed for the Cincinnati Reds Zoo calendar.
He donated $50,000 to Garth Brooks’ “Teammates
for Kids” program. Active with Lighthouse Youth
Services, Sean serves as their spokesperson, in addition
to contributing $50,000 to the organization. Mandi and
he are co-chairing the Lighthouse Capital campaign, as
well as raising money for their Youth Crisis Center, Lighthouse
School and Lighthouse Youth Center. Sean is just beginning
a new initiative, the Joe Nuxhall Character program. Producing
baseball cards that feature his image on the front and
a different character trait on the back, Sean will visit
several schools to speak about character and its importance.
A
two-time NL All-Star, Sean Casey’s .2999657 career
batting average ranks 25th among active players. In 1999,
he received the Hutch Award, for exemplifying the spirit,
courage and integrity of former Red’s manager Fred
Hutchinson.
