area. Since inception, the Moyers and their Foundation
have raised more than $3,000,000 to support over 100 different
organizations. In 2003, he held his fourth annual Jamie
Moyer Invitational Bowling Tournament to benefit “Child
Life” programs at Children’s Hospital, Seattle
Cancer Care Alliance and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research
Center. The event raised more than $210,000. Since 2000,
the tournament has raised more than $685,000 for local
charities. This year, he teamed with the Hutchinson Center
to create the Gregory Fund, a new initiative for early
cancer detection research. His Foundation raised nearly
$250,000 for the Fund through a 12-hour radiothon and
two Celebrity Waiters dinners. Inspired by Erin Metcalf,
a young teen Jamie met through the Make-A-Wish Foundation,
Jamie created Camp Erin, the first bereavement camp for
children in the Seattle area. Jamie is also a supporter
of the LifeCenter Northwest Donor Network. Since 2000,
he has served as the spokesperson for the “Refuse
to Abuse” campaign for the Coalition Against Domestic
Violence. He actively participates in many Mariners Care
programs. Jamie was the 2003 recipient of the Roberto
Clemente award.
In
2003, Jamie Moyer tied for second in the AL in wins with
21. He was named the Mariners Pitcher of the Year in 2003
by the Seattle chapter of the BBWAA. He was a member of
the 2003 AL All-Star team.
