COMMUNITY SERVICE:
Since joining the Expos for the 2001 season, Joey Eischen has been actively involved in the Montreal community, particularly relating to activities for children. He regularly visits hospitals and schools where he delivers motivational talks that never fail to inspire the kids. He conducts baseball clinics for kids. He also participates with blood clinics, encouraging Canadians to give much needed blood. He is always available to attend autograph sessions and local charity functions. Joey has closely associated himself with the Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities. This Canadian foundation raises funds to help children in need across Canada. The organization focuses on improving the quality of life for children and families of children with life-threatening or chronic illnesses and disabilities. Joey’s dealing with fans and underprivileged children are exemplary.

BASEBALL CAREER:
Joey Eischen proved to be one of the Expos’ most valuable pitchers in the 2002 season. His 1.34 ERA was the second lowest among Major League relievers with at least 25 innings pitched. At one point, he pitched in 16 games without being charged with an earned run. He surrendered just one home run all season. In high school in California, Joey excelled in football, basketball, baseball and tennis.
The Branch Rickey Award is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Denver.
Proceeds from the event benefit Denver Kids, Inc., a preventative counseling
and mentoring program for at-risk students in Denver Public Schools.
