COMMUNITY SERVICE:
As chairman of the Chuck LaMar Mercury Marine Grand Slam Celebrity Fishing Tournament, Chuck has raised more than $1,000,000 during the past seven years for the Tampa Bay-based Pediatric Cancer Foundation, of which he is also a board member. He visits patients at All-Children’s Hospital year-round as part of his tournament. He serves on the board for the Children’s Dream Fund which grants “dreams” to seriously ill children. He was the catalyst in fulfilling a young man’s dream to fly to Puerto Rico for a fishing trip, and even accompanied him. Since 1997, he has been honorary chairman of several events for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay. Chuck was instrumental in organizing the team’s charitable foundation, the “Rays of Hope” Foundation. He serves as a member of the board and participates in many of the group’s functions such as the Grand Slam Gala and Rays of Hope Golf Classic. Since 1996, he has been a member of Clearwater for Youth, an organization that gives youngsters the chance to participate in sports while insuring that no child is turned away due to lack of money. In 1998, Chuck started the “Win-Win Club,” recruiting supporters to donate funds for each Devil Rays victory. The Club will surpass the $100,000 mark in donations this year.

BASEBALL CAREER:
In his ninth season with the Rays, Chuck LaMar continues to build baseball’s youngest team based on sound economic decisions, emphasizing scouting and player development. Chuck has also worked for the Braves, Pirates and Reds.
The Branch Rickey Award is presented annually by the Rotary Club of Denver.
Proceeds from the event benefit Denver Kids, Inc., a preventative counseling
and mentoring program for at-risk students in Denver Public Schools.
